Five ideas to make your travel photos better📸

July 9, 2026

‍

Memorable images aren’t about fancy photo gear. They’re about understanding the light, capturing the unique and the unexpected, and taking shots from multiple angles so you can pick and choose the best shots. While having a fancy DSLR is great, using the tips below will allow your phone camera to produce some truly great results as well.

Chase the golden hourVisit Puglia, Italy

1. The hours just after sunrise and before sunset bathe everything in soft, warm light: flattering faces, deepening colours, and softening harsh shadows.

2. Use photos as a way to “collect” souvenirs. Instead of buying things that will just clutter up your home, take a shot of jewellery in a shop window. Snap a pair of socks with a funny “touristy” pattern. Remember Paris with a shot of rows of tiny Eiffel towers. Collect seashells into a pattern and take pictures, then leave them behind.

3.Play around with light. Even if you don’t think a photo will turn out, take it anyway. That’s the beauty of digital. The image could turn out great but if it doesn’t, that’s okay too. It’s easy to delete.

4. Don’t worry about people getting in your way.  A random person walking through your shot gives it energy. A tiny boat at the foot of a towering cliff shows scale. Even influencers taking selfies help you capture the real experience of exploring a place, even if it isn’t always the most aesthetic one.

Instead of using digital zoom, which blurs and pixelates your image, physically move closer to your subject to add a sense of place and intimacy, whether you are capturing an architectural detail, a market stall, or the plate on the table right in front of you.
