We fly to Deer Lake, Newfoundland and transfer to our hotel in Corner Brook.

Our city tour includes Captain Cook’s Lookout and a scenic drive along the Captain Cook Trail to charming Lark Harbour. We will visit the Corner Brook Museum, which has an incredible collection of maps and memorabilia from the area’s logging and fishing past.

Today we get our first glimpse of the Park’s dramatic, beautiful scenery, cross to lovely Bonne Bay by boat, stop for the spectacular view at Lobster Cove lighthouse, and see the famous ocean-carved Arches. Then it’s on to our hotel on the Northern Peninsula.

Our day begins with a visit to L’Anse aux Meadows, North America’s first Viking settlement. We stop at Grenfell Centre, which commemorates the life of medical missionary Sir Wilfred Grenfell, then proceed to our hotel in St. Anthony.

We take the ferry to Labrador (1.5 hours) to see the tallest lighthouse in Atlantic Canada and visit the 16th-century Red Bay Whaling Station, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We ferry back to Newfoundland and return to beautiful Gros Morne (also a UNESCO World Heritage Site) for a two-night stay.

We spend the day in the park: the highlight is a cruise inside an ancient fjord on Western Brook Pond (weather permitting). Tonight it’s off to the Gros Morne Theatre Festival for some fine local entertainment.

We visit King’s Point Whale Pavilion to see the 52-foot humpback whale skeleton, stop in the popular Pottery Museum and Shop, enjoy a delicious lunch overlooking Green Bay, and check out the Salmonid Interpretation Centre in Grand Falls, one of North America’s largest fishing projects. This evening we meet the former mayor of Gander to hear the story of how people opened their homes to thousands of stranded travellers on 9/11, as depicted in the play Come from Away.

Our first stop is the Beothuk Interpretation Centre, where we will learn about the island’s Indigenous people, then travel the Road to the Isles to the fishing villages on rugged Notre Dame Bay. From there, we continue to Twillingate, one of the oldest seaports in Newfoundland, to visit their museum and the oldest wooden church in the province. This evening we enjoy a traditional jiggs (corned beef and vegetable) dinner at a local restaurant.

We travel through Terra Nova Provincial Park to Trinity, a 16th-century fishing port known for its beautiful heritage buildings. Our overnight is in nearby Clarenville.

We drive along the rugged coastline, past scenic Conception Bay. After a stop in Heart’s Content to visit the Cable Station, we continue to St. John’s.

St. John’s is one of North America’s oldest settlements. Our city tour will trace this fascinating history and include a visit to Signal Hill, with its striking view of the city and historic port. We will have some free time in the afternoon—you may want to head to Old St. John’s to shop for local handicrafts.

We embark on an exhilarating marine wildlife adventure to Witless Bay Reserve, home to thousands of puffins and some of the best whale watching in the world. We will stop at Cape Spear, the most easterly point in North America, which was a a strategic defense position against Nazi submarines in WWII. Tonight is our Farewell Dinner, featuring a traditional “screech in.”

We fly home from St. John’s.
