Tour Highlights

  • Albufeira: Explore Albufeira, once a thriving seaport and traditional fishing village that has grown into a popular Algarve resort. The town still retains its Moorish character, seen in its whitewashed buildings and winding narrow streets leading down to the central square, Largo Engenheiro Duarte Pacheco. From the pedestrian shopping area, a tunnel leads directly to the main beach, while several other beaches stretch along both sides of the town.
  • Silves: Visit the historic town of Silves, once a major Moorish stronghold of the Algarve, where you will see the 12th-century cathedral and visit the well-preserved Moorish castle. Continue through the scenic Monchique Mountains to Fóia, the highest point in the Algarve, offering sweeping panoramic views.
  • Alte: Visit the charming hillside village of Alte, known for its whitewashed houses, traditional chimneys, and the 16th-century Church of Our Lady of the Assumption. Continue to Salir, a peaceful rural village surrounded by olive, almond, and carob groves, where the ruins of a Moorish castle overlook the surrounding landscape.
  • Sagres: Explore the historic town of Lagos, where reminders of its maritime and colonial past remain. Pass by the 17th-century Forte da Bandeira, sections of the old city walls, and the Church of Santo António with its small regional museum. The town is also known for its statues commemorating key historical figures linked to the Algarve’s heritage. Continue to Sagres, where the 17th-century fortress and the nearby Cape St. Vincent—Europe’s southwesternmost point—offer dramatic coastal scenery with towering cliffs and sweeping Atlantic views.
  • Faro: Discover Faro, the capital of the Algarve and a lively university town. Explore the walled old town with its cobbled streets, historic buildings, and cathedral square, reflecting centuries of Moorish and Portuguese heritage. Continue to Olhão, the Algarve’s main fishing port, where the bustling waterfront and traditional market offer a vibrant glimpse of local maritime life and fresh seafood culture.
  • Evora: After our stay in the Algarve we will depart for Évora—one of Portugal’s most beautifully preserved medieval towns, for a walking tour and lunch, then continue on to Lisbon.
  • Lisbon: Discover Lisbon, one of Europe’s oldest capitals, rich in over 2,000 years of history. Explore the historic Alfama district with its winding lanes, steep alleys, and traditional houses reflecting its Moorish past. Continue to Belém, home to iconic landmarks including the Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, and the Monument to the Discoveries, all fine examples of 16th-century Manueline architecture. The tour also includes a tasting of the famous “Pastéis de Belém,” Lisbon’s signature custard tart.
